“Journey of the Heart”

In 2015, the American Heart Association established the Heart Valve Patient Ambassador program, a small, volunteer-based group of patients and caregivers who offer support to the millions of Americans impacted by heart valve disease. As ambassadors, we are leaders in the patient community and work directly with the American Heart Association to raise awareness about heart valve disease resources for patients. We reach out to the patient community – both online, through the Support Network, and at in-person events – to offer support and direct patients to resources that are available through the American Heart Association.

I attended  American Heart Association Cardiovascular-Kidney-Metabolic Condition Workshop this past August. The event took place in Washington D.C.

The Patient Voice:  and the road to recovery: trusting God through the process”

I shared my story of survival: high and low moments, how I rely on my faith to keep moving forward,  why I feel it’s important to bridge the gap between the patient and physician,  including mental health in annual check-up ; more in depth assessment , how I committed to encouraging patients to become their own health advocate; by sharing my personal story,   provide resources for the underserved communities, uninsured patients, our younger generation (mental health resources), why I made a decision to advocate for heart, stroke and lung cancer,  discussed the growing need to offer a Patient Guide for patients and their families, after receiving  diagnosis (sharing community resources, including mental health), and why I’m totally committed to honoring my sister. Dr. Karen Leigh Bryant; life and legacy.

On September 14th, 2023, I was selected  a member of the American Heart Association  Patient Advisory Group

We provide ongoing insight and feedback to inform American Heart Association’s  Cardiovascular-Kidney-Metabolic health strategy, programs, and activities to ensure a person-centered approach.

I thank God for placing the desire in my heart to raise awareness, share healthy resources throughout the community  and help patients maintain a positive outlook on life.
